San Juan Island: Washington State's Island Destination
A fun, fresh and comprehensive article by travel writer Patrice Raplee highlights the slightly more "offbeat" side of visiting San Juan Island. Raplee features "offbeat" modes of exploring the island - Suzie's Mopeds, kayaking and the network of island trails and suggests "offbeat" stops along the way - Pelindaba Lavender, Island Inn at 123 West, Whale Museum, The San Juan Historical Museum, Funk and Junk and San Juan Vineyard's Piano and Wine Bar. Read the whole article.
San Juan Island is worth a visit any time of year, but Summer is really when everything comes into "bloom". The best time to visit the farm to see the acres of lavender fields in bloom is May - August. However, if you visit at other times of the year, please feel welcome to stroll through the fields at your leisure. The fields are always open (just be sure to close the gate behind you).
As you explore Friday Harbor, be sure to stop by our year-round retail shop in Friday Harbor located on First Street a block from the ferry landing.
