Holding a hot cup of tea between the hands and inhaling the aromatic steam can be immensely calming. Have you ever wished you could climb into the cup and soak in the warm, fragrant liquid? Maybe you haven't, but just imagine... doesn't that sound amazing! It is.
As incredible as it sounds, you can make a huge cup of tea and slide into its cozy depths — in the bathtub! The soothing bathing qualities of oats are enhanced by the addition of our organic lavender buds and a blend of natural, aromatic herbs to create a luxurious Lavender Tub Tea that is easy to make at home.
How to Make Lavender Tub Tea
Makes 15 - 1/2 cup sachet bags
Ingredients:
- 4 cups Organic Lavender Buds
- 2 cups uncooked Quick Oats
- 1/2 cup dried Nettles
- 1/2 cup dried Rosemary
- 1 cup dried Chamomile Flowers or Organic Lavender Chamomile Tea
- 1/2 cup dried Mint
If dried herbals aren't readily available from your garden, they can usually be obtained from your local natural food store, or from an online herb purveyor. We can, of course, supply you Organic Lavender Buds straight from our fields on San Juan Island, WA! One of our 1/4 lb bulk bags of lavender will provide you just enough for this recipe.
Supplies:
- Large Mixing Bowl
- Measuring Cups
- Fabric Bags
Step 1 - Prepare and mix your ingredients
All the dried herbs should be similarly sized. If needed, tear the nettle and mint leaves so they are closer in size to the chamomile flowers and, if needed, coarsely chop up the rosemary. Be sure to remove large stems. A few small bits of stem won't make a difference, however.
Once you have prepared your ingredients, combine and thoroughly mix them in a large bowl.
Step 2 - Fill the sachet bags
With a generous 1/2 cup, fill each of your sachet bags and secure them tightly using the drawstrings if you purchased bags or with a bit of twine or ribbon for your homemade bags. The bag shouldn't be packed tightly. Just like a tea bag, the hot water needs to be able to easily soak through the herbals to steep properly.
If you don't wish to bag up the entire recipe, you can decant the remaining bulk mix of herbs and oats into a sealed container. It will keep for several months if kept in a cool, dry place.
Step 3 - Presentation
For at-home use, an ideal way to store your Lavender Tub Tea sachets is in a large glass or acrylic jar or canister. They can look quite attractive on a bathroom shelf or on the edge of the bathtub with your other favorite bathing adjuncts.
A few sachets of Lavender Tub Tea also make a lovely gift to spoil a loved one. Packaged in a recycled gift box or basket with a lavender candle and even a natural sponge or loofah, you'll have a thoughtful gift ready to promote calm and relaxation.
To use, drop a
sachet bag into bath while filling the tub with hot water and then
relax as you lie in the bath and a breathe in the wonderful aromas.
Handmade gifts crafted with a loved one in mind are always extra special. Whether as a treat for yourself or to spoil someone else, a soothing, aromatic soak is an hour well-spent!
And, if you like honey with your tea, might we suggest a moisturizing and gentle exfoliating Lavender Honey Oat Scrub to enhance your at-home spa experience.
Love lavender, love Friday Harbor, love Pelindaba. I have always lived in Texas, but never enjoyed this place. Maybe I will move to the San Juan Islands and work at the lavender farm. In the meantime, I'll make this soothing, aromatic soak then put it in the tub, climb in and take a hot bath and pretend I am living in that beautiful place!
